11,127. Lake, H. H., [Mills, C.]. May 4. Carding - engines.-Relates to apparatus for attaching clips to card clothing to be secured to carding-engine flats. The side clips consist each of a plate or strip of metal bent longitudinally at right-angles, one of the flanges or parts a of the strip having teeth a<1> formed in it as shown in Fig. 8. In a suitable bed a recess B<1> is formed, having stepped sides and adapted to hold a pair of side clips and the card filleting to which they are to be secured. End clips or guards a<3> are also provided, which are laid on the flanges a of the side clips and are secured when the teeth are clinched. The end clips a' are placed against gauges c<1>, F, Fig. 5, in the channel or bed; one end of the fillet is secured in the fixed jaws c<2>, C, operated by the lever c<6>, and the other in the jaws d<2>, D, of a second clip operated by a lever d<6>, and attached to a band d', which may be wound upon a drum by means of a hand-wheel and ratchet mechanism. When the fillet has been stretched longitudinally, a plunger G is swung into position above the fillet and clips, and depressed by means of eccentric mechanism operated by hand so as to force the edges of the card clothing on to the teeth of the clips, and clinch the teeth in the manner shown in Fig. 4.
