The top and bottom frames A, A, connected by distance-bolts b, b, support a central driving-shaft p and two side shafts d, d' all geared together. Cranks f, f<1> upon the upper ends of the shafts d, d<1> are connected by a bar h in which is mounted the spindle l of a grinding disc m ; the spindle is rotated by belt gearing from the pin g<1> of the crank f<1>, which in tarn is rotated by belt and pulleys y, z from a shaft v passing through the shaft d' and driven by a belt and pulleys w, x from the shaft p. A planetary motion is thus imparted to the disc m over the table c, which may be of steel ; the balls are kept under the disc by means of its projecting rim, a spider frame may be loosely inserted below it, to keep them evenly distributed. The spindle l is connected by a ball- and -socket joint to the adj usting-screw n. The table c may be made to rotate, two or more discs may be used, or the disc may be carried on a crank on a prolongation of the central shaft.
