Abstract

8143. Allison, C. A., [Wilson, W. C.]. March 30. Cans.-Relates to means for permitting the contents of bottles, cans, &c. to be poured out as required, and for hermetically closing the vessels after the pouring operation, and also to means for preventing the fraudulent refilling of such vessels. Figs. 1 and 3 show the application of the invention to a can adapted to contain kerosene oil &c. The top B of the vessel is provided with a fixed cap b<2>, on which is screwed the flange d of the shell C, a packing-washer f being fixed to the bottom plate e of the shell to form a joint between it and the cap b<2>. The shell is provided with a spout g and an air inlet g<1>, and the plate e, washer f, cap b<2>, and top B are also formed with liquid outlets e, e<4>, c, b and with air inlets e<2>, e<6>, c', b<1>. Fig. 1 shows the positions of the parts ready for pouring, and Fig. 3 shows the liquid and air passages closed. The passages are opened or closed as required by turning the spout g into the proper position. In a modification, the shell C screws into a sunken socket fixed in the top of the vessel. For further security during transport, a metal disc may be introduced between the washer f and the cap b<2> to cover and close the ports c, c'. Fig. 5 shows the adaptation of the invention to a bottle. The cap b<2> is soldered to the collar D which screws on the neck of the vessel, and the shell C is built up of a cap r, a hollow ring s, and a cap u, all soldered together. The ring s is cut away at v to provide an outlet for the liquid, aud is also formed with air inlets r<1>, s<1>. Fig. 8 shows the form adapted to prevent the refilling of the vessel. In this the collar D is secured by pins m<1> to the neck of the vessel, and the shell C is connected by a central rivet G to the cap b<2> to prevent the removal of the parts. The casing B is provided with a conical tube I, in which is placed a hollow cup or valve K, which permits the contents to pass out through the tube, but prevents the reintroduction of liquid.
