3883. Shanks, J. Feb. 13. Butt and flange joints for the discharge pipes of flushing-cisterns, baths, sinks, &c. Various modifications are used, two of which are shown in Figs. 2 and 7. Between the flared upper end of the pipe K<1> and the siphon L' a packing-ring L<2> is interposed and screwed up into contact by a flange L<3>. In Fig. 7 the flared end is shown nipped between the siphon outlet and flange L<3>.
