Abstract

1657. Webb, G. A., and Thoms, W. A. Jan. 21. Metals and alloys, depositing.-Relates to the deposition of metals or alloys containing phosphorus. The metals deposited may be platinum, iridium, palladium, ruthenium, and the like heavy metals, copper, tin, gold, silver, zinc, cadmium, nickel, cobalt, iron, lead, bismuth, or antimony ; while the alloys may be mixtures of any of these. An anode is employed formed of the desired metal or alloy and containing phosphorus, or an electrolyte is used containing a salt of the metal or alloy and phosphorus, or both anode and electrolyte containing the desired ingredients may be used. The phosphor metal or alloy may be deposited upon metals or alloys of metals or other suitable materials. Examples are given of solutions, quantities, temperatures, and strengths of current for some particular cases. The electrolyte may be formed electrolytically or otherwise.
