Abstract
188,813. Loncaster, J. W. Aug. 25,1921. Trawling-gear.-Otter-boards A, A<1>, Fig. 1, are attached to bridles g, g<l> and to the head- and ground-lines E, B respectively. Lifting devices H, H<1>, L, of similar construction to the otterboards, are attached to the head-line E and the cod end of the net respectively, bridles J, J<1>, l<1> connecting them to a false head-line K and the head-line E. The otter-boards consist of a curved casing formed of planks or metal plates a<3> fixed to a channel-shaped frame a<1>, a, a<2>, which is filled by a piece of wood as, with cork a<e>, or an airtight casing above it; a metal plate a' closes the top of the casing. A hollow or solid fin F, horizontally fixed to the otter-board, has a number of holes f, to any one of which the bridle g may be fastened. The lifting device is of the same construction, except that the fin F is fixed vertically. Both devices may also be in the form of an airtight casing, Fig. 8, made by brazing or otherwise fixing together two parts h, h<*>.
