Lighting b u r n e r s by frictional devices. -An igniter for motor-cycle and other acetylene-gas lamps comprises an ordinary sparkproducer carried by a bracket a, Fig. 2, secured to the burner b by means of a wing-nut c. The sparking-wheel of the igniter is actuated by means of a torsion or other suitable rod or connection d to which is secured an operating-knob e. A sleeve f, Fig. 6, is threaded on the connection d and receives the reduced end of the knob e; the connection d is further secured by means of a set-screw h. Fig. 5 shows the wav in which the connection d is secured within the tubular pivot j of the sparking- wheel i. The pivot has an enlarged extension k within which the connection d is secured by a setscrew l which, in the case of a cylindrical connection d, clinches or bends the connection into an aperture m in the extension k ; if the connection d is of square or D-section, the aperture m is unnecessary, the clinching being effected by the screw l alone. If desired, the means shown in Fig. 5 may be dispensed with, the. pivot j being prolonged to carry the knob e. The igniter may be formed integrally with the burner.
