Abstract
188,402. Walker, G. E. Aug. 11, 1921. Tar oil, purifying.-In a continuous process for purifying crude naphtha and separating the constituents, the naphtha is distilled from stills A heated to 200-250‹ C. The vapours pass through columns a and coolers a<1>. Condensate is collected in tanks B, and is mixed with sulphuric acid in a chamber C. The mixture is forced by a pump P to settling tanks E, in which the acid is separated and the naphtha is washed with soda. solution prepared in tank H and diluted in tank H', and with water. The washed distillate passes to a tank F from which it is raised by a pump P' to a tank K, Fig. 1<a>, in which a definite level is maintained by an overflow pipe k, and from which it flows through a heater L and in succession through fractionating coumns M<1>, M<2>, M' which may be arranged as described in Specification 121,748 and from which a distillate constituting commercial motor benzol is collected, and through a column N' from which commercial toluol is collected, and a column N<2> from which solvent naphtha is collected. The columns are heated by steam under pressure. The residual oil from the column N<2> which has a temperature of about 250‹ C. may be used as heating-agent for the first column M<1>.
