Abstract

188,349. Gauldie, K., Pattullo, D. L., and Hardie, R. L. June 1, 1921. Implements with means for treating soil.-The oscillating scoop, shovel &c., described in Specification 177,952 is driven in such a manner that the maximum value of the vertical component of the acceleration imparted thereto is nearly equal to or exceeds the acceleration due to gravity. The scoop A, Fig. 1, may be oscillated by unbalanced weights 2 mounted on a shaft 3 which rotates in bearings attached to the scoop or by a crank 5 and connecting rod 6, Fig. 3. The scoop has pivoted side wings. A short section U of the scoop may be connected by an horizontal pivot Y to the main part A, and when the scoop is used for excavating earth, clay or the softer rocks this section may be supported by links so that the tip moves in the direction of the cut. The scoop may be used for digging potatoes, ploughing, and in combination with a rotating star wheel as a pulverizer for tenacious soils.
