Abstract
187,620. Budd Manufacturing Co., E. G., (Assignees of Ledwinka, J.). Oct. 20, 1921, [Convention date]. Doors for passenger vehicles. -An automobile door consists of flanged metal frame members joined by welding at the corners, and a sheet metal panel having a window, opening therein joined to the frame by welding &c. The bottom rail 11, Fig. 3, is joined to the side rails by welding the overlapped flanges 15, 20, and the ton rail is similarlv secured to the sides. Straight flanged channel guides 25, Fig. 8, for the sliding window are welded to the sides with spacing members 28 at the lower ends. The sheet metal panel 10 having a window opening is secured to the frame by clinching the edges over the flanges of the frame members and welding the inner sides of the window opening to the flanges 27 on the guides 25. The panel is strengthened by beading around the edge of the window opening and a gap as wide as the channel 25 is left between the top frame member and panel to permit insertion or removal of glass panel. An angle member 49 with inturned depending flange 50 is welded to the panel at the bottom of the window opening. Supports for the window panel in the fully opened position are welded to the guides 25 and provided with rubber buffers. A strengthening channel member 35, Fig. 6, is inserted and welded to the frame and guide where the hinge 36 is attached.
