In operation, the threaded needle is forced through the material, the thread is then detached, and is re-attached when the needle has been thrust through for the next stitch: the needle is then withdrawn, and the cycle repeated. Only one lateral groove may be formed in the tool and the longitudinal grooves may be dispensed with.
