Roundabouts. - Relates to the mechanism described in the parent Specification for raising and lowering arms supporting the cars of a roundabout, and consists in constructing the mechanism so that the weight of each arm is balanced by the weight of another arm and one car can be raised while another is lowered. In the construction shown in Fig. 1 alternate arms P<1> are connected by rods R to a forked nut S which is free to move up and down a screw T rotated by the motor W. Each of the other arms P is connected at its inner end to the inner end of an arm P' by a rope WR passing over a pulley RP carried on a cross-piece CP which can be moved up and down by a screw SC. Thus by rotating the screw T opposite arms P, P<1> can be made to rise and fall alternately, and the weight of one is balanced by the weight of the other. By rotating the screw SC all the cars can be brought to the platform B at the same time. In a modification, the inner ends of the arms are connected to vertical racks S<1>, S<2>, Fig. 3 which mesh with pinions V, V<1>, respectively, on a horizontal shaft T<1>, so that rotation of the shaft moves the racks, and therefore the arms P, P' in opposite directions. By means of a clutch U<2> the pinions V<1> can be freed from the shaft and the cars brought down to the platform at the same time.
