Abstract
183,655. Telford, A. E., Ray, T., Griffiths, R. W., and Cahill, J. Juue 7. 1921. Wind and like screens or deflectors. - In a wind - screen of the type in which sleeves or eyes, as C, Fig. 1, attached to the frame of the wind-screen, are adapted to slide along supporting-arms, such as D, hinged one on each side of the car body or to the back of the front seats of the automobile, the sleeves are connected with the wind-screen simply through vertical pivot axles, and, while the arms are provided with the usual means such as engaging tongues d and grooves c<1> for preventing the sleeves from rotating relatively thereto, such means are discontinued at their inner ends to permit the sleeves to turn freely on the arms and to allow the screen to be turned down and folded close against the front seats, for which purpose the arms D may be cranked at their inner ends. The sleeves Care connected, as shown in Fig. 4, to the frame of the wind-screen A, relative rotary movement between each boss a, connected to the windscreen frame, and the sleeve C, as the screen is slid into its open or " in use " position, being used to screw the sleeve C upon a stud b, serving as the vertical pivot axis and secured to the boss, so that the frame is tightly clamped against the sleeve in the extreme extended position. Clamping-means, such as thumb-screws b<2>, may be used to clamp the wind-screen in any desired position along the arms D, and spring-pressed buttons are provided to prevent the wind-screen from falling when the sleeves C are slid to the inner pivoted ends of the arms D. Side-screens, which may be fitted to the main screen are held at any desired angle by means of a milled nut pressing against a tapered plug, around the hinge-pin.
