Abstract
183,182. Marks, E. C. R., (California Burdett Oxygen Co.). March 16, 1921. Blowpipe - burners. - An oxy-acetylene or like cutting- torch is provided with a valve for regulating the cutting-jet according to the thickness of the material to be cut, the pressure of the gas supplied to the torch being maintained constant. Oxygen and acetylene are supplied through valvecontrolled connections a n d pipes 16, 22 respectively to a central cavity 21 and an annular chamber 23 in a head 20. A mixing-tube 30 in which a quill 33 is screwed is secured by a nut 31 in the head 20, and body part 41 screws on the mixing-tube. The pipe 16 supplies oxygen through a hole 35 to a space between the quill 33 and the mixing-tube 30. In this space the oxygen mixes with acetylene admitted from the chamber 23 through holes 36 drilled in the mixing-tube. The mixed gases then pass through holes 59 and a cavity 60 in the body part 41 to the heating-jet pipe 61 leading to a member 65 carrying the tip 66. The pipe 16 also supplies oxygen through a central passage in the quill 33 and a spring-pressed valve 50 to the cutting-jet pipe 63 leading to the member 65. The valve seat 45 is removably secured in the quill 33. The valve 50 is operated by a handlever 53 carrving an adjustable screw stop 55 which is calibrated on its shank to indicate the correct adjustments for different thicknesses of material to be cut. The heating-gas is delivered by the pipe 61 into an annular cavity 70 which is in communication with small passages 71 in the tip 60 surrounding a central cutting-oxygen passage 72.
