Abstract
182,922. Marks, E. C. R., (Corona Typewriter Co., Inc.). April 12, 1921. Paper-carriages.-In antifriction mountings comprising antifriction members running in channelled raceways on the carriage and a stationary support, one raceway being adapted to yield laterally, the yielding raceway is pivotally mounted, or is divided into longitudinal sections which can yield independently. The constructions described below are suitable for folding machines, and consist of sbeet-metal stampings. In the construction shown in Figs. 3, 4, and 6, the raceways consist of rigid flanges d on the baseplate a of the carriage, a rigid flange g on the front of the stationary bed-plate f, and a yielding flange g which consists of two longitudinal sections pivoted at the rear of the bed-plate in the following manner. Each section is formed with two hooks o<1> which are passed through a notch p and a slot q respectively, and bear on the bottom of the bed-plate. Longitudinal movement is prevented by a plate r having fingers t abutting on the middle hooks. The sections are urged outwards by independent blade springs j, Fig. 4. To prevent the carriage from being detached by a lateral pull or push, stops, such as screws n or struck-up lugs, are provided for limiting the lateral movement of the sections. The bed-plate is formed with a rear stiffening flame u. Each pair of raceways receives two balls i which engage eyes in a separator l consisting of a narrow strip formed at the ends with lugs i<2> for preventing the separator from tilting. The movement of the balls is limited by stop-screws m. The stop-screws and separator confine each of the rear balls to one of the sections g. The edges of the rigid flanges g, d are arranged near the base-plate a and bed-plate f respectively and form abutments for the carriage if excessive pressure, such as may occur when the machine is folded, is applied. The yielding flange may be mounted on the carriage base-plate.
