Abstract

182,699. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). July 19, 1921. Drawings to Specification. Alloys.-Filaments, wires, strips, and sheets of tungsten alloys are prepared by shaping metallic tungsten to the desired form, coating the resulting body with a constituent of the desired alloy, and heating the resulting composite body to a temperature at which the coating material alloys with the tungsten. Tungsten filaments may be coated electrolytically or otherwise with iron or zirconium, the unalloved composite filaments being afterwards mounted in lamp bulbs and the alloying operation effected therein. Specifications 21513/06 and 168,669, and the known process of coating tantalum filaments with tungsten and alloying them subsequently by heating are referred to.
