Abstract

182,598. Djurson, A. R. K. April 21, 1921. Compensating for wear.-A slack-adjuster for brake mechanism comprises a brake cylinder 1, a piston-rod 3 and a guide 13 pivoted to the truck frame at 19 so that it may move laterally but not longitudinally. The levers 5, 6 are connected to the cylinder, the piston-rod, the brake rods 8, 9, and one another as shown. The piston-rod 3 carries a roller 11, which runs in the slot 12 and is connected by a link 17 to a roller 14 on the upper end of a connecting-rod 15. When the brakes are applied, the roller 14 moves along the slot 12 and up the inclined portion 20, causing the rod 15 to rotate a lever at its lower end so that the slackadjuster 10 is operated.
