Sieves with compound motion.-In a plansifter, the points of suspension X of the rods 4 carrying the sieves 2 are arranged in a plane A-B containing the centre of oscillation Z of the shaft 7, whilst the centres y of the connections of the rods 4 to the sieve frames are arranged in a second plane C - - D parallel to the plane A - - B and passing through the centre of gravity of a counterweight 13 and through the centre V of the spherical bearing 11<1> of the lower end of the driving shaft. The shaft 7 is keyed to a driven pulley 8 which rests on spherical seatings 6<1>, 6<11> having a common centre Z, the seatings being formed on a bearing 5 carried by a main support 1. The lower end of the shaft 7 has a By-wheel 12 attached to it, which carries a counterweight 13. A pin 10, eccentrically attached to the shaft 7 engages a spherical seating 11<1> in the socket 11 the seating having centre V and the socket being attached to the, frame 3 carrying the sieves. By these means a balanced gyratory motion is given to the sieves. In a modification, the two bearings 6<1>, 6<11> are replaced by a single spherical bearing, and the spherical bearing 11' is replaced by a ball bear. ing.
