Abstract
181,528. Pendrigh, T. G. April 2, 1921. Buckets; single-acting bucket pumps; pumps with bell pistons.-In single-acting pumps of the type comprising a lower outer cup a, open at its upper end to the atmosphere, with concentric walls a<1>, a<2>, a<3> between which are reciprocated a series of corresponding walls d<1>, d<2>, d<3> carried by an inverted upper cup d, the space between the walls being filled with liquid which acts as packing, the outer wall a of the lower cup is situated at some distance from the inner concentric walls and is sufficiently high to retain the liquid as it rises during pumping. A cover c may also be provided for the lower cup. The valves b, e controlling suction into and discharge from the pumping chamber f mav be situated one at each end, as shown, or both at one end. The concentric walls may be grooved circumferentially to impede further the passage of the liquid between them.
