Abstract

181,468. Pearce, R. W. March 11, 1921. Air - casings and water - tight casings, non - structural. - Apparatus for lifting the bow or stern of a damaged vessel out of the water to effect repairs comprises an inflatable air bag 6 made of canvas treated with rubber solution, and provided with wooden rollers 4 threaded on iron bars linked by chain couplings 10 along its upper edges, ropes 5 by means of which it may be hauled under and attached to the vessel, and armoured air pipes 3 connecting it to air pumps 2 driven by the ship's winches. Ropes 7 are sewn to the upper surface of the bag to prevent chafing. A non-return valve is located between the delivery side of the air pump and the air pipe 3.
