Abstract

181,384. Mueller, F. E. June 11, 1921, [Convention date]. Supporting and mounting bearings; oil, retaining.- The parts of a ball, roller, cylindrical, or other known type of bearing are assembled within a pressed sheet-metal cup the body of which is out of frictional contact with the support, as shown. In Fig. 1 a metal cup 12 has a flange 15 which is secured to the boss 7 of the casing 5 by screws 25. A felt packing- ring 16 and a metal disc 17 retain lubricant in the ball bearing 20. A metal ring 21, with an integral flange 22, bears againts the outer ball race 19 under the action of a helical spring 26 surrounding an absorbent felt disc 23<1> serving as an oil-reservoir. The whole is covered by a plate 24. In the bearing at the other end of the shaft the spring 26 is omitted and a felt oil-retaining ring substituted for the felt disc 23<1>.
