Abstract
180,215. Marks, E. C. R., (Semi-Unit Corporation). May 31, 1921. Syringes.-Relates to those having collapsible containers 12 hermetically sealed at one end and with the other end closed by a puncturable diaphragm 14 clamped between the mouthpiece of the container and a hub on the needle. The clamping-member comprises an annular jaw portion 21 seated on the container flange 13 and a sleeve portion 22, embracing the hub 17 carried by the needle 16, Fig. 2, or, as shown in Fig. 5, it may be in two parts 26, 27, one screwing into the other. The diaphragm 14 is locally weakened either by intersecting cuts 28, Fig. 4, through part of its thickness or by an aperture 30, Fig. 3, through the whole of its thickness, in which case the aperture is filled with paraffin or collodion, which is then allowed to dry. The puncturing of the diaphragm occurs at these local weak points through pressure exerted on the outside of the container. The material with which the aperture 30 is filled may also form films 31 over the diaphragm
