Abstract

179,718. Timson, A. R. Feb. 25, 1921. Punching-apparatus on revolving drum. - The punches are given a subsequent movement into the dies in order to eject the "pips." The invention as applied to a machine for perforating the edge of a web is shown in Fig. 2, in which a slotted rotating carrier 5 on a shaft carries longitudinal bars 3, oscillated by rollers 10 engaging a fixed cam 12, bearing a punch bracket 9 and a die-plate 2. Punches 1 carried in slides 7 are oscillated within the brackets 9 by projections 14 which engage cam-plates 13 adjustably fixed on bars 15. In operation, the web to be perforated travels over a roller 16 and between the punches 1 and die-plates 2 carried by the rotating carrier 5. The web is perforated by the punch in the position A, and the punch and die-plate are then moved to the edge of the web by the cam 12, where the " pip " is ejected by a subsequent movement of the punch into the die-plate caused by another fixed cam 13 in position B. The punches and their carrier 5 and the cams 11 are adjustable on the shaft 6 and locked in position by nuts 18.
