Abstract
179,460. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). July 1, 1921. Coating materials in long lengths. -Wire coated with fabric is passed through a bath of molten insulating-material, such as asphalt, at a temperature high enough to eliminate moisture and air from the fabric and then whilst the wire is still at a high temperature it is coated with a coagulable oil. The cotton-covered wire. 1 is led by means of rotatable reels 7, 8 through a tank 4 containing asphalt heated to about 500' F. While the wire is still hot it is wiped by a wiper 10 to remove excess asphalt, is led through a bath 9 of coagulable vegetable oil, such as China wood oil, fed by a supply tank 11, and is then passed through tale or other mineral powder to render the surface free from tackiness.
