Propelling b y means other than adhesion driving wheels and racks; motive power, applications of.-In the propelling and supporting legs having a heel-andhoe action as described in the parent Specification, the pin of the crank slides in a downwardly-extended slot in the striding member, which is raised and lowered by a device positively controlled by the pin. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the pin 74 on the crank 3 works in a slot 8<11> in the striding member, the upper part of which is also provided with a slot 8<1> working on a pin 75, which is either fixed or forms the pin of a crank rotating at double the speed of the crank 3. The striding member is raised and lowered by the alternate straightening and upsetting of the toggle-links 76, 79 connected respectively to the striding member and the pin 75 and operated by the crank-pin 74 engaging the fork 76<1> on the link 79. The foot may be forced to the lower end of the striding member or may be pivoted thereto and formed with upwardly extending fork members which engage the pin 74, or it may be carried on the lower fork 76<1> of a toggle-link. In a modification, the striding member consists of two parts slidable on one another. In the application to a motor-bicycle two striding members, one on each side, may be inclined inwardly at their lower ends to form a narrow track and the bicycle may be balanced by a fly-wheel on a vertical axis geared to the driving-shaft.
