Type-lever machines for writing music; case-shift mechanism; types. -Type-levers for printing music are provided with a type-member consisting of a disc which is formed with peripheral type-bearing flats of equal length and is revoluble for character-selection. Preferably, the type-levers b are each provided on the pivot a' with a loose pulley d<1> which is connected by an endless chain c to a pulley d on a triangular or hexagonal type-member a. The triangular members are employed for notes having long stems. A spring a<x> is inserted in the chain. A pinion d<2> on the pulley d' engages a rack e provided with an extension e<1> carrying an adjustable stop e<2> co-operating with a segment or plate f which can slide laterally on supports g, Fig. 6, and is adjusted by a hand-lever k. The keylevers A are connected by linkage n, o, p<1> to chains p which pass over pulleys px and are secured at q to the type-levers. When the handlever k is set in any, except the bottom one, of a series of notches l<x>, the plate f engages the stop e<2> of the operative type-lever before the type-lever reaches the platen B, the rack e being thereby arrested and, by means of the chain and pulleys, causing the type-member to rotate and select a type. When the hand-lever is set in the bottom notch, the plate f fails to arrest the stop e<2> and the type-member is not rotated, the type that is normally in position being selected. The first, third, and fifth notches are employed for selecting the faces of the triangular typemembers. The type-levers are connected to rods s<3> which pass through holes in the pivot-brackets a<2> and are engaged by returning-springs s<1>. Returning-springs s are connected to the key-levers. In the return movement of the type-levers, adjustable stops r on the racks are moved into contact with the pivot-brackets and thereby cause the type-member to turn to the normal position.
