Abstract

177,281. Reid, E. A. Jan. 6, 1921. Gins etc.; feeding openers &c.-The fibres from cotton gins and other machines that remove the seeds, burrs, &c. from wool, cotton, &c. are passed into hoppers B leading to a flue or trunk A, along which they are conveyed by a draught of air. The fibre is passed from the hopper to the flue by a rotary device F with leather-tipped vanes working in a cylindrical opening in a block, one side of which is hinged at L for cleaning purposes. The flue is built up in sections, one for each machine, and below each opening is an adjustable baffle or vane C to cause the air to move downwards to draw the fibre from the device F and to prevent back-draught into the hopper. The fibre drawn along the flue may be cleaned by a condenser cage at the end.
