Abstract

176,761. American Cotton Oil Co., (Assignees of Phillips, C. 0.). March 5, 1921,. [Convention date]. Cylinder machines; cooling-apparatus; delivery; feeding; cleaning - apparatus; moulding soap.-In rotarysoap-moulding machines of the type described in Specifications 164,339 and 175,959, improved feeding-means are provided and also means for correctly positioning the moulds and the cover-plates and for cooling the closed moulds by spraying, the soap being thus protected from direct contact with the cooling-liquid. The soap is delivered from a jacketed hopper 26 by screws to two sets of moulds 10 mounted in threes on the rim 11 of a drum formed by arms 7, Fig. 5, extending outwards from each side of the rim 6 of a wheel mounted on the shaft 1. The hopper 26 is disposed laterally of the drum, as shown in Fig. 1, so that the moulds move vertically towards the hopper during filling. Each mould has a movable bottom 12 connected by a piston 14 to a cross-bar 13 having rollers 15 which move in cam-tracks 16 - - 19 which control the position of the pistons in the moulds. The coverplates 31, Fig. 6, are connected together by rods 33 passing through spaced and staggered bearings 32 and are rotated by sprocket-wheels 37 having cavities which engage rollers 34 on the ends of the cover-plate rods 33, one pair of wheels being adjustably mounted to allow of tensioning the chain. Correct positioning of the cover-plates with the mould is obtained by forkshaped brackets 39 which engage the rollers 34. The cooling-liquid is carried in spray-pipes 55, 54, mounted respectively inside and outside the drum. The movable bottoms are cleaned by pivoted scrapers 61, and the mould cavities and cover-plates by brushes 66, 70. The cam-track 16 is preferably adjusted so that the pistons are moved outwards slightly to compensate for shrinkage and to compress the soap, the bottoms 12 and cover-plates being provided with patterns therefor. The mculded tablets are ejected from the moulds by the action of the cam-track 19 on to a conveyer 49. disengagement being ensured by an ejector 51.
