Abstract
175,809. Beken, E. G., and Swinburne, F. R. Dec. 7, 1920. Horns, construction of.-Relates to warning- horns for motor vehicles &c. in which the sound, after leaving the reed, travels along a reed-pipe where it enters a resonating chamber carried by the reed-pipe. The sound waves issue from this chamber and travel back to the closed end of the bell by return tubes. A second resonating chamber may be provided at the closed end of the bell. As shown in Fig. 1, the bell A is attached to a resonating chamber B, and to the centre of this chamber is attached the reed-pipe C. The reedpipe terminates in a chamber E, and sound waves issuing from this chamber pass along the two return tubes F, which open into a resonating chamber B. The return tubes are cut off at an angle, as at F<2>, so that the sound is thrown outwards into the chamber B. In the modified construction shown in Fig. 3, the resonating chamber E<2> is rectangular and there are four return tubes F3.
