Abstract

Dec. 7, 1920 Cracking nuts; impact pulverizers. - Relates to nut-cracking machines of the type in which nuts are subjected to a beating action in a casing by backwardly-inclined plates or the like carried by a revolving shaft. According to the invention, a drum 2 with the beater-plates 3 fits within a cylinder 1 and is driven through intermediate speed-multiplying gearing from a shaft 12 turned bv means of one or more hand-cranks. A wheel 16 on the shaft 12 gears with a pinion 17 on an intermediate shaft 18 carrying a wheel 20 which gears with a pinion 21 on the shaft 10 of the drum. The short cylinder or casing 1 has one end in the form of a removable cover-plate, and the feed-hopper 5 is provided with hinged flaps or feedregulating baffles 7 adjustable by means of bars 8 passing through apertures in the sides of the hopper. The kernels and shells are discharged through an opening 6 in the bottom of the cylinder 1.
