Abstract

174,939. Smaele, F. de. Feb. 1, 1921. [Convention date]. Building-blocks, special shapes of; slabs. - Walls are built of blocks a of poor or common cement having a central aperture c and two end trapezoidal grooves e so that as the various courses break joint the central aperture c registers with the trapezoidal aperture formed by the end grooves e of adjacent blocks and a filling of cement or mortar, which may have a reinforcement f, serves to strengthen the wall. The blocks are also provided with a side groove g in which is cemented a block or lath h against which rests the ends of insulating plates i of cork, peat, ashes, slag, &c. and anchored in position by hooks j to form an inner wall. The blocks a may be provided with additional side projections to permit connection with transverse walls. The blocks may be curved for use in circular constructions such as cisterns. A flexible wire reinforcement may also be employed. Apertures b, d may be provided to lighten the block.
