Abstract

174,604. Duhanot, E. Jan. 26, 1921, [Convention date]. Matches.-Matches are supported in the course of manufacture in a series of plates 1, Fig. 3, having transverse grooves 2 for reception of the ends of the sticks so that the finished matches may be removed without stopping the movement of the plates. The guide-tracks supporting the plates offer a sinuous course sufficiently long to ensure the drying of the matches after travelling over the sulphuring or paraffin bath 25 and dipping arrangement 26. Inside the circular portions 9 of the guides move toothed wheels which engage notches 3, 4 in each plate and deliver it to a rectilinear portion 8 of the guideway. In order that the notches should not become entangled when passing over the series 10 of the wheels, i.e. on the inside of the curve, the wheels have fewer teeth than the series 11 so that consecutive plates are spaced further apart; the series 10 rotate considerably faster than the series 11 to render uniform the feed of the plates. The match sticks are initially delivered by a filling hopper 20 and placed in position by means of a sliding platform 19, which may be controlled from the general shaft 18. The finished matches are removed by a series of small blades 21 ,Fig. 7, penetrating into the grooves, and are collected on a conveyer belt 22 for delivery to a boxing-device. During this operation, the plates are held between two friction wheels which assist the wheels 10<1> to carry on the plates. The machines may accommodate sticks of different sections by suitably arranging the elements for distributing and fixing the sticks in the plates. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that two similar machines may be employed arranged face to face, both being driven by a single shalt 17 and fed by a single distributor 20. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
