Abstract

174,340. Roller, K. Jan. 21, 1921, [Convention date]. Void [Pubdished under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Addition to 172,332. Machines with two or more armatures. -- The armatures of two generators of the kind described in the parent Specification are mounted on a common shaft and the exciting windings are interconnected so as to diminish the magnetic fluctuation of the system. The generator has two magnet systems 1, 2, and 1<1>, 2<1>: armatures 3, 4 and 3<1>, 4<1> carrying windings 7, 7' connected to a commutator 8 are mounted on a rotating shaft 5. The armatures are inclined at an angle of 45‹ to each other, so that an increase in the magnetic reluctance of one system due to the relative displacement of the armatures and field magnets is balanced by a decrease of reluctance in the other system, and, as the exciting windings 6, 6<1> are in series, the effect is to keep the exciting current constant. Another construction is described in which there are two stationary ring armatures a, a<1>, Fig. 2, each acted upon by a rotating salient pole magnet, the two field magnets m, m<1> being angularly displaced relatively to each other. The numbers of poles on the armature and magnet of each generator are such that the poles of one polarity are all opposite an armature pole at one time, while the poles of the other polarity are all opposite interpolar spaces. On account of the mutual position of the magnet wheels, there is a phase difference of 90‹ between the current generated in the winding b and that in the winding b<1>, so that this form of construction can be used for generating two-phase alternating currents.
