Abstract

174,140. Kirkham, W. D. S. Oct. 9, 1920. Golf-teaching appliances.-An apparatus for teaching the correct golf-club swing comprises a guide-rail of circular cross-section, a carriage maintained thereon by claws which permit both a tilting and a slight lateral rotary movement of the carriage, and a golf-club shaft attached inflexibly to the carriage but capable of axial rotation relatively thereto. The guide-rail C is supported by brackets D, F<1>, F<2>. The brackets F<1>, F<2> are adjustable along an arm E which may be adjusted on a pillar B. The golf-club shaft H is attached to the carriage G by means of a socket K, Fig. 3, the attachment consisting of a groove and pin to prevent relative rotation between the shaft and the socket. The claws L of the carriage G engage the guide-rail loosely to permit tilting, and are capable of sliding movement transversely of the carriage body so that the carriage may turn slightly in its own plane. The pupil stands on a platform A provided with adjustable foot-prints and, in swinging the club shaft, is constrained by the guide-rail to make the stroke correctly.
