The upper member comprises two boards h, i hinged together by double hinges or secured to cross-pieces j, k which engage bolts m, n mounted on the back c. The boards h, i and the back c are provided with cork inserts. When the device is in use as a chair the part of the back situated below the hinges d is held against the legs g by hook and eye fastenings e, f.
