Abstract

172,384. Moll, J. Sept. 1, 1920. Heating by electricity. - A rivet-heating machine is provided with two heating devices which are operated alternately so that while a rivet is being heated in one, a hot rivet may be replaced by a cold rivet in the other. The rivets are clamped between pairs of water-cooled electrodes a, b and a, c connected to the secondary winding of a transformer enclosed in a casing G. The electrode a is adjustable and is provided with recesses to fit various sizes of rivet heads. The clamping-electrodes b, c are actuated by cams f, f<1> on a shaft e operated by a hand-lever h, the cams f, f<1> having their raised parts at right-angles to each other so that the electrode b is raised when the electrode c is depressed and vice versa. The shaft e operates the switches for the primary circuit of the transformer the circuit being completed after the rivet is clamped and broken before the rivet is released. The electrodes b, c are adjustable for rivets of different lengths.
