Pencil holders.-In pencil holders of the type in which the lead is carried in a split resilient tube advanced and retracted by the engagement of a projection on this tube with a helical propelling-member, and, in particular, of the kind described in Specification 144,966, the split end of this tube is provided with a sliding sleeve operable by hand to cause the tube to grip the lead, thus ensuring that the grip of the tube on the lead is always greater than that of the leadsupport at the writing-point of the pencil. The split end of the lead tube may be bent outwardly to facilitate the action of the sleeve and the introduction of fresh leads into the tube. In the form shown, the split end of the lead tube 3, bent at 5 as shown, is compressed on to the lead 11 by the sleeve 8, this sleeve being accessible when the nozzle of the pencil holder is unscrewed.
