Abstract
169,950. Trent Process Corporation, (Assignees of Trent, W. E.). Oct. 4, 1920, [Convention date]. Dry processes of extracting metals.- In a process for reducing iron and other ores, the ore from a receptacle A is pulverized, either by a wet or a dry process, and fed to a mixer D along with similarly treated coal from a receptacle A<1>, the mixture passing to a lowtemperature chamber E where it is heated to 300-400‹ C. to remove the oil from the coal and reduce partially the iron &c. in the ore. The gases pass through a pipe to a combustion chamber N, the heavier byproducts (oil &c.) passing to a condenser F and the ore &c. to a magnetic or other separator G. The carbonized dust &c. is led by a pipe G' to a mixer 1 where it is mixed with water, the product passing to an amalgamator J where it is intimately mixed with the by-products passing by a pipe F<1> from the condenser F. The amalgam of coal and oil pass into a low temperature retort K, and the carbonized particles are introduced by a pipe K<1> into a mixer H along with the ore &c. from the separator G, passing then into a combustion chamber N having a reducing- flame therein. The molten metal passes on to a hearth O along with the gases, freed from oil &c., in the condenser M, from the retort K and is removed therefrom by a pipe for further treatment if desired. The oil from the condenser M is returned to the amalgamator J. If desired, only a part of the coal may be introduced into the mixer D, the rest being delivered to the mixer I. The waste gases from the chambers E, N or the retort K may be used for other purposes.
