Abstract

169,941. Frerichs, G. May 28, 1921. Disinfected articles, protecting. - Sterilized surgical instruments &c. are heated and sealed up while hot in exhausted jars which are provided with a cover and a packing ring and elastic devices by which the cover is held clear of the packing ring until the exhausted jar is exposed to atmospheric pressure when the cover is forced down on the ring and the jar sealed. For this purpose balls 26, Fig. 5, or wedgeshaped pieces may be employed which are driven into the packing ring when the lid 20 is forced down, or spiral springs 28, Fig. 6, may be placed in recesses in the ring 22. The vessels to be treated may be placed in chambers 10, Fig. 1, built into the walls of a house &c., and adapted to be connected to a vacuum chamber 4 through piping 8, or opened to the atmosphere.
