Abstract
169,877. Auster, L. W. Aug. 3, 1920. Look-out reflectors.-Side wings attached to wind-screens have a reflecting-surface or rear observation mirrors formed therewith or secured thereto. The side wing 1, Fig. 1, may be silvered as shown at 2 or may have a separate mirror inserted and secured rigidly in a hole cut therein. Various modifications are illustrated. The mirror mav be mounted by a universal ball- and-socket joint or a hinge joint on a stem passing through and secured by a shoulder and nut to the glass of the side wing. Cr two such stems and brackets may form pivots for the mirror. A screwed stem projecting from one side of the mirror may pass through a slot in a projecting part of the metal framework of the side wing, and may be adjusted and held therein by nuts. The mirror 2, Fig. 9, may be held in the end of a metal cylinder 4 which passes through and is held at such an angle in the glass of the side wing 1, that the mirror may remain approximatelv transverse to the car while the side wing is inclined rearwardly.
