Batch-mixers with circulating devices. - Relates to the mixing-machine described in Specification 167,925, which is particularly intended for producing a wet mixture of asbestos and cement, and consists in providing a mixing-tank having means for causing the material to circulate between the centre and the wall of the tank. The machine, as shown in sectional elevation in Fig. 1, consists of an open cylindrical tank 1 placed above a receiving-tank 26 and separated from it by a gate 21, 22, which can be spaced or closed as desired. A vertical shaft 2 passing axially through the tank carries mixing-blades 9, Fig. 5, which have one-half of their length turned at right-angles to the other half. Scrapers 15, Fig. 1, are also carried by the parallel arms 13, 14 in which the blades 9 are mounted. The blades are pivoted in the arms and may be turned to any inclination by crank arms 12, which are connected by a link 16 and controlled by a handle 17. A large screw 8 is secured to the shaft in the space between the blades. In use, the screw 8 forces the material towards the gate 21, 22, but as this is normally closed, the material moves outwards and is assisted by the inclination of the lower halves of the blades 9. The scrapers 15 and the upper halves of the blades 9 cause the material to flow inwards in the upper part of the tank so that there is a circulation of the material. When the gate 21, 22 is opened, the material is fed downwards into the tank 26. Specification 138,921 is referred to.
