167,811. Clifton, W. E., and Ewart, J. S. April 13, 1920. Diaphragms, construction and shape of. A diaphragm is formed mainly of substantially non- resilient material and has a relatively stiff portion disposed in the middle or partly in the middle. In one arrangement, a diaphragm F, Fig. 4, of oiled silk is cut away to receive a radial strip G of stiffer material such as mica. covering discs of paper being then applied by adhesive to both sides. In another arrangement, the oiled silk part is replaced by a film of celluloid F, Fig. 7, which may have circular and cross stiffening corrugations J, K, L, and a part G is then stiffened by applying pieces of paper or other material to one or both sides. A small strip M of celluloid or other material may be applied over the part G. In a further arrangement, a mica or other diaphragm N, Fig. 5, is weakened by perforations P to leave a relatively stiff part at O. Specification 27110/07 is referred to.
