Abstract
166,471. Kreutzberg, O. A. Sept. 9, 1920. Edge-runners and pans and like mills.-Pulverizing-apparatus comprises rollers mounted to rotate freely by frictional engagement with a rotating table having a centrally-depressed upper surface, the material to be crushed being delivered on to the table at the inner ends of the rollers and the crushed material escaping from the periphery of the table. As shown in Fig. 1, the rollers 3 are mounted upon axles 4 hinged upon brackets 5 on the support 1, and the material is fed by a shoot 6 over an upraised central portion 7 of the table, which is carried by a vertical shaft 2a driven by bevelgearing 7, 8 from the driving-shaft 9. The crushed material passes through annular apertures 1<a> in the support 1 into a funnel or casing 14 terminating in a discharge mouth 14<a>. The shaft 2a is supported in a step bearing 10<a> at the lower end of a housing 10 suspended from the support 1. An air current is caused to pass upwards through the crushed material escaping from the edge of the table to carry the fine particles up through the enclosing casing 12 into a conduit 13 leading to a storage bin. The air passes through apertures 10<c>, 1<c> in the housing 10 and support 1 respectively, and is deflected by plates 15, 16. Removable fan-blades 1<x> may be secured to the lower side of the table. The table 2 and rollers 3 are provided with detachable wear plates or sectors 2<x>, 3<x>. Each roller may consist of a number of sections mounted side by side on a shaft and rotating independently thereon, and the sections of some of the rollers may be of different lengths to the sections of adjacent rollers so that the tracks of the sections of some of the rollers lap over the tracks of the sections of other rollers. For regulating the velocity of the air current through the casing 12 and thereby controlling the fineness of the material carried out by the air current, an adjustable discharge sleeve 20, Fig. 7, comprising two telescoping members is mounted in the discharge conduit 13. The members 20 are raised or lowered by means of a shaft 21 and cable 22, and the lower member is provided at the lower end with a flaring or funnel mouthpiece 30<a>. In another arrangement, the upper part of the casing 12 is cylindrical and the mouthpiece 30<a> fits slidingly in the casing, a return pipe for the coarser material being mounted above the centre of the table. The rollers may be pressed yieldingly against the table by springs, as shown in Fig. 9. A lever-arm 4b extending from the, arms of the T-fitting 4<a> of the axle 4 of the roller 3 carries an adjusting-screw 21 which bears against a block 19<a> at the outer end of the spring 19.
