Clamping-devices; boxes and cabinets.-A till or receiver for bank or Treasury notes, bills, or other sheets of paper or the like, comprises a spring-controlled platform 8 on which the note &c. is placed and held. in position by two arms 17 on crank shafts 16. A crank 18 on each shaft 16 is connected to one end of a spring 19 the other end of which is secured to the base of the till. One member 20 of a spring-controlled ratchet clutch is secured to the shaft 16, the other member 21 of the clutch being secured to a pulley 22 and disc 23 mounted on the shaft 16. A cord 28 secured to and wrapped round the pulley 22 is secured at its other end to a p:voted frame 29 below the platform 8. A cord 26 secured' to the disc 23 is secured at its other end to a spring 27 which is fastened to the base of the till. A parallel motion 10 ensures the vertical rise and fall of the platform 8. When a note &c. is placed on the platform, with its end overlapping the arms 17, and the platform is depressed the frame 29 is depressed by the platform and the pulley 22 is rotated by the cord 28. The crank 16 is thereby rotated by the clutch 21, 20. When the crank is thus rotated beyond its dead centre, its rotation is completed by the spring 28, the arms 17 thereby smoothing out the ends of the note &c., and coming to rest in their lowermost position over the note, the pulley 22 being returned to its normal position by the spring 27. On the release of the platform, the note is held against the arms 17. Instead of one arm 17, each shaft may have two or more arms, a corresponding amount of rotation being imparted to the shaft by each depression of the platform, which may also actuate a mechanism for counting or recording the number of notes &c. placed on the platform.
