Abstract

165,884. Marriott, W. Jan. 10, 1920. Reinforced-concrete columns.-A reinforcedconcrete post, pole, pile, &c., which may be of any appropriate form in cross-section, comprises a number of pre-cast elements a arranged end to end associated with a metal reinforcement comprising members b extending longitudinally of the arranged elements and connected by bracings c, the members b being associated with the elements a at the time of the formation of the structure. In the construction shown in Figs. 2, 3, and 5, the bracings c are incorporated in the elements a and, in assembling the parts to complete the structure, the longitudinal members b are threaded through passages in the elements and sockets h on the bracings, and are secured at their ends by screw nuts. The sockets h may be welded, as shown, or formed by looping portions of the bracings. Apertures i are formed in the elements a by means of which grouting is inserted between the members b and the passages therefor. In the construction shown in Figs. 9 and 10, the longitudinal members are welded to the bracings before the assembly of the structure, the pre-cast elements being threaded over the complete reinforcment and the internal space being afterwards filled with concrete inserted by passing it through lateral apertures in the walls of the elements. Cramps k are placed in recesses formed in the adjacent end of the elements a so as to project into the .interior of the elements, the recesses being filled with concrete when the inner concrete core has set. The reinforcement may be made in sections, the longitudinal members of each section being provided at one end with screwed ferrules for engagement with members of adjacent sections. A structure may be formed comprising a plurality of poles constructed as described and connected together. Where the poles are inclined as shown in Fig. 31, they are secured at the top by a cap n having a plurality of sockets to receive the tops of the poles.
