Abstract

163,170. Mond, A., (Traylor Engineering & Manufacturing Co.). March 8, 1920. Crushers with gyrating heads.-Relates to gyratory crushers of the kind in which the shaft carrying the crushing-cone is moved in an orbital path and lubrication is effected by means of a pump in an oilchamber operated by the movement of the eccentric in an oil-chamber beneath the shaft. The pump is connected to the shaft or to a cylindrical sleeve thereon so as to be operated by the orbital movement of the shaft of sleeve. The cylindrical part or sleeve 5, which is keyed to the cylindrical part 1<b> of the shaft 1 of the crushing-cone 2, and has a flared upper end 5a to receive the tapered part 1<a> of the shaft, projects beyond the lower end of the shaft and is closed at its lower end so as to form an oil-chamber 5<c>. The eccentric sleeve 6. which is mounted in the bearing-member 7 carried by the cylindrical part 8<a> of the crusher frame 8 projects above the sleeve 5 and is flared at its upper end to correspond to the portion 1<a> of the shaft. The upper end of the sleeve 6 projects into an annular recess in the lower part of the cone 2, and a bevel-wheel 10 at the lower end of the sleeve gears with a wheel 11 on the driving- shaft 12. A casing 14 detachably secured to the lower end of the sleeve 5 contains the gears 15. 16 of a gear pump, and the shaft of the wheel 16 projects through the bottom of the casing and carries a wheel 17 which gears with a stationary rack 18 on the removable cover-member 19. Oil passes from the annular oil chamber 20a in the removable cover-plate 20 by a port a into the chamber 21 beneath the casing 14, and through an opening 21a in the bottom of the casing 14 to the pump which forces it through an opening 21<b> into the space within the sleeve 5 beneath the end of the shaft 1. Ports 6<x> lead the oil which overflows at the top of the sleeve into an annular chamber 7<x> in the bearing-sleeve 7, whence it passes down between the outer surface of the eccentric and the bearing-sleeve 7, one of these parts being provided with grooves. Oil reaching the bottom of the grooves is thrown outwards by centrifugal force over the wheel 10. Surplus oil passes from the channel 7<x> by a port x and a pipe 21<1> to a chamber 22 encircling the bearing 13 of the driving-shaft 12, whence it passes by ports 13<a> to the bearing 13 and by ports a<1> to the chamber 20<a>. To enable the crusher to operate in either direction two sets of ports are provided, one set of which may be plugged up. The sleeve between the shaft and the eccentric may be dispensed with as shown in Fig. 2, the pump casing 14<x> then being secured directly to the bottom of the crusher shaft 1<y> which is provided with a vertical oil-passage y with transverse passages y' leading to the eccentric bearing and to the oil-channel at the top.
