Circulating or passing fluids through materials. -Consists in the provision of means as described below to facilitate the handling of the material under treatment in the apparatus described in the parent Specification. Between the lattice top 3, Fig. 1, and the perforated false bottom 4 of the apparatus of the parent Specification, is placed an inner telescopic cage 5 divided into sections 6 fitting within one another, as shown in Fig. 5, the outside section 6<a>, which is the top one when extended, being connected to the lattice 3. The material is compressed and allowed to open out in this cage, which is formed of perforated sheet metal, the sections being held together by strips 7 and beadings 8. The bottom is made in two halves provided with handles to facilitate drawing apart so that the material may fall out; or the sections may be hinged. The cage is mounted on runners 14 to enable it to be run out on to a truck 12, Fig. 2, provided with rail guides 13, into which truck the material may be dropped. For treating material in hank form, the sticks 17 are supported in end plates 18 having anti-friction rollers 20 running in guides 19 hung from the lattice, and the truck 12 is provided with similar guides 21 to receive them.
