Abstract

162,660. Soc. GÚnÚrale des Freins Lipkowski. May 3, 1920, [Convention date]. Fluid pressure.-In accelerator valves for compressed air brakes, of the kind comprising a piston or diaphragm subject to the opposing pressures in the train-pipe and a control chamber and at each successive reduction in train-pipe pressure actuating a valve to vent the train-pipe to a chamber, the compressed air in the control chamber is allowed to escape to the atmosphere to effect the rapid return of the valve after it has been actuated. The pressure in the chamber B connected to the train-pipe at a is normally equalized through the passage c with the pressure in the chamber c and a small reservoir connected at b, and the parts are thus maintained in the position shown by the spring F with the venting chamber G connected to atmosphere by the passages d, e and slide valve H. When the train-pipe pressure is reduced the passage c being insufficient to equalize the pressures above and below the diaphragm D, the valve H uncovers the passage d to vent the train-pipe to the chamber G and connects the passage f from the chamber C to the exhaust passage d. When by the escape of air from the chamber C both through the passages c, d the pressure therein falls sufficiently. the spring F'returns the parts again to the position shown.
