Abstract
162,648. Aktiebolaget Karlstads Mekaniska Verkstad. April 30, 1920, [Convention date]. Wet presses; cylinders; Foudrinier papermachines.-A covering for rollers for apparatus for pressing liquid out of fibrous substances &c. is made of a number of parts each shorter than the periphery of the roller, curved on its outer surface to be concentric with the roller, and having channels, grooves, slots, or notches on its outer surface. The parts are preferably connected so as to form a band or chain. Fig. 1 shows an apparatus with two pressing-rollers 1 with tightlyfitting coverings 3 made of links, each of which may be separately secured to the body of the roller; alternatively they may be connected by pins 5 to form a chain or " grate " which is kept in place by collars at the ends of the roller. Each link may be of the form shown in Figs. 3 and 4, and has a grooved or slotted upper surface. Their recessed undersides 6 are engaged by projections on the surfaces of the roller bodies 1, and they are thus carried round with the rollers. Scrapers 12 and suction-devices 10 remove excess of material and water. The modification shown in Fig. 2 comprises chains or " grates " 13, 16 substantially longer than the circumferences of the rollers 14, 17. The upper chain is supported on a polygonal adjusting or driving roller 15. Tubes 20, 21 supplying air, water, gas, or steam may be fitted to clean the " grates, " the waste materials being collected in troughs 22, 23. In the Specification os open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), Fig. 3 (Cancelled) shows a paper machine wherein the pulp from a tank 25 passes on a wire apron 26 between " grates " 27, 28 and rollers 29, 30, 31, 32. In this machine the links are constructed as shown in Figs. 8 (Cancelled) and 9 (Cancelled), or in Fig. 10 (Cancelled), and have narrow slots between all parts. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
