Abstract

162,012. Roddis, C. H. Nov. 5, 1919. Drawings to Specification. Soldering-irons. - In an electrically-heated soldering-iron the heating substance is enclosed in an asbestos lining in the 'bore of a copper. bit. The, lining is closed by a bush through which the conductors pass, the ends of which are buried in the heating substance. The bit is fitted with a metal connecting box lined with a mica tube into which the leads pass. A brass tube may form the middle part of the tool to which a handle in halves is fitted enclosing the leads and connections. The heating element consists of a single solid block of carborundum, in crystal condition, arranged between two conductors which can be set up automatically or by hand to the carborundum to maintain good contact. According to the Provisional Specification, the heating element may consist of silicon, iron pyrites, copper pyrites, molybdenite, bomite, zincite, or ferron.
